"Change is necessary for growth, and I have a lot of living to do before I die."
-Richie Quake

Rising R&B musician/producer Richie Quake is navigating the murky waters of the music industry by keeping his approach simple: "I want to express myself creatively, and I want to reach people."

Richie told SWAGGER that after attending the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College—where he says creating music turned into a competition to see who can push the envelope the furthest—he returned to his native Brooklyn and focused on crafting his sound and lyrics. "When you're focused on pushing the envelope and not focused on channeling some sort of emotion to share with people, you [build] a ceiling and I realized that I don't want to be limited by that."

His most recent track, "Try" showcases just how far Richie has come from his earlier material. Its lo-fi, moody R&B production is padded with a layer of 80's new wave. The immaculate melodies and lyrics about lost love cut deep. "I want to make my audience feel something authentic and I want to do that the most honest way possible." The track, Richie says, is about the complexities of love, and the beauty of it from start to finish. "Even though being in love is beautiful, it doesn't make everything perfect. It's not always easy to make changes in your life, especially when it means losing someone that you care for so intensely. But change is necessary for growth, and I have a lot of living to do before I die."
