THE NEW YORK
On a rainy summer day in July, I walked for a quarter mile to A train. Along the way were 8 different people snapping a selfie, each indifferent to the water seeping into the crevices of their phone. Upon exiting at Canal Street, I noticed yet another selfie, and another, until I reached The Jimmy rooftop at the James Hotel. In one hour among bikini-clad beauties, 12 different folks duckfaced their way into a selfie snap.
I got to thinking: How many people in NYC take a selfie on any given day? Over multiple hourly walks across the same quarter mile on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, I counted and created an equation that is in no way scientific. But it sure is telling.
