The Smithsonian Just Gets It

via GETTY

In an epic cross-promotional move, Netflix teamed up with the Smithsonian Institute to unveil a portrait of the fictional House of Cards POTUS, Frank Underwood, in the National Portrait Gallery. The gallery features portraits of every US president as well as notable American dignitaries, now including Kevin Spacey.

The unveiling (streamed on Periscope of course) went down similar to an IRL presidential portrait reveal, accompanying a speech from Underwood and an appearance by series co-stars Michael Kelly, as chief of staff Doug Stamper, and Nathan Darrow aka Meechum, Underwood's bae bodyguard. The painting, completed by British artist Jonathan Yeo, will be on display through October. (via: Deadline)

Ben Carson Pulls The Blacker Than You Card, Says Obama Was "Raised White"

via: GETTY

Here's something new to add to your "shit Ben Carson says" list! In a podcast interview with Politico, Ben Carson dug his campaign deeper in the hole by suggesting that President Barack Obama was “raised white” unlike his own poor upbringing in Detroit, thus the first black president cannot identify with the "experience of black Americans." He’s an ‘African’ American. He was, you know, raised white,” Carson said of the president during the podcast.

“Many of his formative years were spent in Indonesia. So, for him to, you know, claim that, you know, he identifies with the experience of black Americans, I think, is a bit of a stretch.” He closed his very troubling thesis by reminding us "I’ve been around for 64 years, you know,” he said. “I’ve had a chance to see what real racism is.” (Via: Politico)
